In der DDR wurde 1973 mit dem minirex 73 der erste eigene Taschenrechner auf der Leipziger Früjahrsmesse präsentiert. Er wurde anschließend in Serie hergestellt. Ein Jahr darauf erschien mit dem minirex 74 das direkte Nachfolgemodell.
